that means we are ready to officially embark on the buddhism unit so let me hand out our first buddhism discussion sheet here this chapter opens in an interesting way it begins by asserting that the buddha was only one was one of only two people about whom [Music] the rest of humanity that's being his kind of cosmic dream yeah he's woke yeah he was the first one he was the first woke one i only uh discovered that that's a thing recently but uh yeah it's actually not a new thing because the buddha made that up like 2500 years ago the being woke so he's very woke which of course has nothing to do with what the modern connotation of the term means this is a spiritual awakening but yeah that it's interesting that he and i of course can't historically verify this but this author is quite a scholar i'm sure he had good reason to assert that the buddha was only one was one of only two people that uh generally when they were approached people ask them not who are you which is the ordinary question to ask someone you say oh who are you if you say who are you enjoy the sky walls um what's your name what's your job what do you do so stuff like that who are you that's pretty straightforward question but that the buddha was so very different that people asked him not so much who are you but what are you i don't suppose too many of us get asked that too often what are you and i'm sure many people have been asked that in the in the past but the the buddha was one of two people that was often asked of what the heck are you what are you there's something so profound and different about you a feeling to ask not who are you but what are you the other one being who jesus yeah jesus in the buddha that's what this this author was in this first chapter the first paragraph of the chapter as being the two people that question was asked of the answers of course were very different uh as we'll see in the christianity unit jesus answered that question very straightforwardly uh god the buddha...
